How to change to classic windows theme for windows 7

Sorry this didn't help. Thanks for your feedback. I upgraded the only 2 machines with a windows install on them and immediately reverted to 7 where I can control my UI colors and size. Windows has become just like Mac OS forcing a single UI on everyone with ease of access themes that are brutally ugly and insulting to those who must use them.

It's unbelievable that in this day and age of features being selling points 2 of the 3 major OS vendors have been stupid enough to explicitly restrict and take away core features. More so both Mac and Windows now force users into using a dated UI concept which is the old paradigm of white paper with black ink i.

Nothing could be worse for a users eyes! Computers might be a hell of a lot cheaper now but the point of the joke stands, white backgrounds and black fonts are the stupidest UI choices you could make from a ocular health standpoint and power savings!

That is and always will be a deal breaker! I'm also on 7 with a partially customized Windows Classic Theme light green, light blue for window and 2k Snow Trees background.

I plan on buying a new computer and dual booting with 8. However, this is ludicrous and I will buy a another copy of 7 to put in VirtualBox, or just copy my current hard drive this might not work cause I bought OEM and it will deactivate! Thanks but no thanks MS, give me the Classic Theme! However, there may be a work around it may not work partially or entirely : Open your start menu or screen , search for 'Computer' or 'This PC' and right click on it, select 'Properties'.

On the window that shows up, click 'Advanced system settings'. On that window, under 'Performance' click 'Settings'. Now where it says 'Use visual styles on windows and buttons' uncheck and click 'Apply'. I can't test this on either as I don't have a copy to do so. Please try this and tell me if it worked or not! How many times will Windows say "We heard you loud and clear. This thread is locked.

If you need any screenshots, I could spend 10 minutes looking for the right moment of the Windows 7 look. I was just trying to get some notes to have on hand for when I boot that thing up for the first time.

Regarding the Classic View of the START Menu panel unfortunately Microsoft don't have the feature by default however there are lots of 3rd party applications that you can installed to your machine.

Note: This is a non-Microsoft website. They had colorful window frames with gradients and custom fonts which were based on the erstwhile grey theme. Such themes were available in Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows and Windows XP, which was the last Windows version which had them natively. Here is my port of those themes to Windows Unfortunately, there is no direct way to get the exact appearance of any of the classic themes, especially the ones which have title bar gradients.

Windows 10 comes without the classic theme engine. Microsoft has removed support for most color and font metrics and only keeps themes based on visual styles. The Aero engine, which is the only one available in Windows 10 and Windows 8 , has no support for title bar gradients unless system files are patched. However, let's not go into that territory. I managed to get something that looks close to the original classic themes. There is a hidden "Aero Lite" theme in Windows 10 which is used as the base for High Contrast themes.
