It's broken About 6 mounth Don't be worry. The time now is Mark Forums Read. True but Dave and a few other good channels are missing on free Sat but on terrestrial free. Unfortunately sky has you painted into a corner. All times are GMT.

Where have you heard that from? Lucid , 16 Aug It's well documented that Sky's recording and playback features are subscription-based.

If there's a loophole opened up with certain models of box missing the update then I can see Sky working very hard to end that because of the tax implications. That doesn't mean you shouldn't try it.

Just don't hold your breath. Lucid , 17 Aug I bought a Sky Plus box on ebay years ago and the supplied blue card still allowed the box to record free to air channels. With the old blue cards, if you removed them from the box before Sky sent out the kill signal to stop it working once the subscription had expired the card never got killed and the recording feature still works in the box it was assigned to.

It is extremely frustrating to own boxes we have paid for a hundred times over and not be able to use the PVR features because of Sky's restrictions. Any ideas? Not possible. If you have to ask where you'd start trying you don't have the knowledge to do it I believe there was an old Pace model that could have the firmware reloaded to enable recording but that didn't last long I thought that myself. Been reading up and it appears that Sky has a band of lawyers trawling the internet and shutting down sites that try to which is why it is so hard to find ANY information on the subject.

Oh well, I suppose I will just sell them on and get some new Freesat boxes to tinker with. I still find it disgusting that Sky do that to their customers, but hey, I am not turning this into a rant thread as much as I would like to. Click to expand Yes because it is illegal to hack and modify the existing software - you may own the hardware but you do not own the software.

It's not illegal to modify the existing software for your own personal use. Distributing that modified software would be the problem. Wrong - you can legally remove the software either complete or in part and replace it with your own code - you cannot legally just modify the existing code even for your own use.
